Georgia Football Weekend 2021 – Championship Week

We have arrived at Championship Week in College Football. This weekend we crown conference champions and teams will solidify their place in the College Football Playoff. We of course will talk Georgia, but we will also cover the other games that have playoff implications.

#9 Baylor vs #5 Oklahoma State

The Bears of Baylor will take on the Cowboys of Oklahoma State in the Big 12 title game. OSU will be trying to punch their ticket to the College Football playoff. They are ranked #5 and with a loss by Bama in the SEC title or a loss by either Michigan or Cincinnati could get the Cowboys in. They are facing a strong Baylor team who matches up with them well. OSU has already beaten the Bears once this season, can they do it again?
Prediction: OSU 34 Baylor 28

#4 Cincinnati vs #21 Houston

The AAC Championship game has playoff implications. The #4 Bearcats are trying to be the first group of 5 team to make the playoff. They are undefeated and have to face a Houston team today that has won 11 straight. As good as the Cougars have been they have only beaten 1 ranked team on their road to the title game. They would love nothing more than to destroy the playoff homes of Cincy but it doesn’t seem likely.
Prediction: Cincinnati 40 Houston 17

#1 Georgia vs #3 Alabama

Maybe the biggest game of the day will be the SEC Title game. The winner is guaranteed to make the playoff. If Georgia loses, they still could make it. This is the rare occasion where a Nick Saban team will be an underdog in the SEC Title game. The Georgia defense has been a monster in their march to being undefeated. After watching the Tide’s struggles last week against Auburn’s front line its hard to believe that Georgia won’t have their way. Can Kirby Smart get a victory over his mentor who has beaten him in their 2 previous high stakes games where the Dawgs were leading until late? Although this may not be a blowout expect Georgia to exercise those demons.
Prediction: Georgia 30 Alabama 20

#2 Michigan vs #12 Iowa

Michigan plays in it’s first Big 10 Title game today. That seems like a weird statement considering the history of this conference. Jim Harbaugh finally got rid of his Ohio State demon, now can he take the Wolverines to their first College Football Playoff. Iowa has one of the best defenses in the country but has been playing it close all year. They have loss 2 games in conference and have avoided both Michigan State and Ohio State. Michigan will have its work cut out but they are a better team.
Prediction: Michigan 24 Iowa 17
