Georgia Football Weekend Preview 9/18/15
The revamped Kind Like Sports brings back the Georgia Football weekend preview. The big teams around the state have some major games going. Everybody in action and trying to ensure they keep up the early season success. Here a few of the key matchups and how I think they will play out.
Georgia Tech vs Notre Dame
The Yellow Jackets take Paul Johnson’s triple option to South Bend Saturday. With Notre Dame a part of the ACC now we will see a lot more of these match ups. The Irish will be limping into this game with a few injuries, most notable quarterback Malik Zaire. That being said as we seen of late in college football back up signal callers seem to be a little more capable than the public thinks. The scouting report on sophomore DeShone Kizer is that he is not as fast as Zaire but has the better arm.
The 10th ranked Fighting Irish are home dogs against the 16th ranked Jackets. With good reason as the Tech offense has been clicking on all cylinders as Justin Thomas in his 2nd year under center is looking sharper than ever. At the end of the day this one will probably be a shootout but I have more faith in Georgia Tech to get the 2 or 3 stops needed to win this ball game.
Predicton: Georgia Tech 37 Notre Dame 31
Georgia Southern vs Citadel
The Eagles welcome the Citadel to Statesboro,GA this weekend. In what used to be a conference game now is a inter division match up. Georgia Southern enters the game 1-1 after defeating a tough Western Michigan team last week handily. This game is pretty all Eagles whose only loss this season so far was against West Virginia. Quarterback Kevin Ellison will be back under center after serving a 2 game suspension to start the season and should be too much for the military school to handle.
Prediction: Georgia Southern 30 Citadel 14
Georgia vs South Carolina
Georgia will be welcoming familiar nemesis Steve Spurrier with poll position in the SEC East on the line. Some would say that it’s a down year for South Carolina but when has that ever mattered with a Spurrier led team against UGA. Between his stops and Florida and with the Gamecocks the Old Ball Coach is 16-6 against the Bulldogs. Now Georgia is a loaded team this season and very talented. The two spots of weakness special teams of which the Dawgs do not have a special teams coach. Georgia still has a question mark at quarterback. Is Greyson Lambert the man and how long do you stick with him if you are questioning that. He do not look that sharp against Vandy and this is a step in the competition.
All in all I think Georgia finds a way to come out on top. There is a new offensive coordinator in town who when in doubt will run the ball and that is something Georgia does as well as anybody in the country. A 2nd year with Jeremy Pruitt at the helm of the defense the Dawgs should be able to hold on. Now if you are gambling you may want to leave this alone because UGA does not care about the spread.
Prediction: Georgia 24 South Carolina 21
