Georgia Football Weekend Preview 10/3/15
The world of college football will have its eyes on Athens, GA this weekend as there will be a game with playoff implications going down. The Yellow Jackets will try to get up off the mat after a few rough weeks. Can the Eagles keep up their winning ways?
Georgia Tech vs North Carolina
The Yellow Jackets have had a rough past two weeks with losses to Notre Dame and Duke. Today they host the high powered offense of North Carolina, a team that beat them last season. The Tarheels come into Atlanta with a 3-1 record and averaging 38 points per game. Led by talented quarterback Marquis Williams, North Carolina will play their first ACC contest of the season. On Family Day down at Bobby Dodd Stadium the Jackets are not looking on slipping any further back in the Coastal Division. A team that started the season with whispers of making the college football playoffs still has a shot at taking down the ACC and the trip starts today.
This game will not feature a lot of defense. Justin Thomas and Georgia Tech should have remedied their turnover issues that plagued in recent weeks. Expect some home cooking and the Jackets to be back in the win column.
Prediction: GA Tech 34 North Carolina 27
Georgia Southern vs Lousiana Monroe
Tonight the Eagles travel to Louisiana to face the Warhawks of Louisiana- Monroe. After a tough week one loss to West Virginia, Georgia Southern has been hanging at least 40 on all its opponents. With the number 4 rushing attack in the nation the boys from Statesboro will be too much for the WarHawks and the rest of the Sun Belt Conference. I don’t expect Southern to lose another game until November 21st when they go to Athens and that remains to be seen.
Prediction: Georgia Southern 45 ULM 20
Georgia vs Alabama
One big critique of Mark Richt is that he has not won the big one in a long time. Well the big dog in the SEC is coming to Athens and wants to prove it still runs things around the conference. Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide come to face a team from the neighboring state that they don’t see that often. The last time these 2 teams met the SEC Title was on the line and UGA came up a little short. This is a new day and both of these talented teams are looking to make their claim for a spot in the playoff later this year.
The money question can that powerful rushing attack led by Nick Chubb beat down that strong Alabama defense. Can Greyson Lambert make the throws to give that running attack some room? If Georgia can pass well enough where Kirby Smart and Nick Saban will not load up the box on Chubb and company Georgia has a chance. Alabama is an underdog for the first time in 72 games and how will the Crimson Tide react to possibly having title hopes done in October. This game is hard because there is crazy talent all over the field and neither quarterback is scary.
Prediction: Georgia 21 Alabama 17
