Georgia Football Weekend 2022 – Week 6

Last week was interesting in college football around the state. Georgia State and Georgia Tech won games that I predicted they would lose while Georgia barely held on against Missouri. Just a friendly reminder that nothing is predictable in college football and 19 and 20 year old’s don’t care about what the odds makers think.

Georgia State vs Georgia Southern

Today at 2pm in Atlanta, the two Sun Belt teams from Georgia will battle it out. Georgia Southern comes off a disappointing 34-30 loss to Coastal Carolina, while Georgia State finally jumped into the win column with a 31-14 win against Army. This game could mean a lot for both teams and their season. Could State start to put something together? Can Southern get to 4-2 and make this a true bounce back season. Both teams have proved they can score but they both do give up a lot points. The Panthers are favored by 2.5 at home but being at home that makes it a push. Expect some points and a close game at the end.
Prediction: Georgia Southern 37 Georgia State 31

#2 Georgia vs Auburn

Georgia was nearly upset last week against Missouri. After two consecutive weeks of games being closer than they are supposed to be will the Bulldogs get it together. This supposed to be the lighter part of Georgia’s schedule but there are not off days in the SEC. Auburn has not looked great this season and lost last week to LSU in a close game. Nothing about Auburn says that they can beat Georgia, but the same thing could have been said last week. Not sure if Georgia will cover the 27-point spread but they should win.
Prediction: Georgia 30 Auburn 14

Georgia Tech vs Duke

Georgia Tech proved me wrong last week and went on the road and defeated Pitt 26-21. This week it is homecoming, and the Jackets are welcoming the Duke Blue Devils to Atlanta. Duke is currently 4-1 and coming off a strong victory against Virginia. Coach Mike Elko brings in a team that is scoring 35 points per game and rushing for 200 yards per contest. Duke is favored but not overwhelmingly. Can Georgia Tech rely on an loud homecoming crowd to push them over? How will Jeff Sims fare this week, will look like the guy who gave the team 81 yards on the ground last week? Brent Day is hoping so in his audition to become the permanent head coach.
Prediction: Duke 34 Georgia Tech 31
