Georgia Football Weekend 2018 – Opening Weekend
College football is back in full effect. Some games have already been played. Here locally Georgia State edged out Kennesaw State what hopes to be a really good up and coming rivalry. We will add a new twist to the Georgia Weekend Preview as a we will also pick one hot national game to preview along with what’s happening with Georgia and Georgia Tech.
This year opening week doesn’t deliver too much locally but it’s always nice to see some college football action. Both UGA and Tech have money games this weekend to tune themselves up for the season. There are some high expectations this year that is especially true for the Bulldogs.
The UGA Bulldogs are thinking Championship or bust. After winning the SEC in Kirby Smart’s 2nd year and a near miss in the National Title game the Dawgs are ready for action in 2019. The team lost a lot of talent off last years team but still appear to be loaded. The Governors of Austin Peay are an FCS team out of the Ohio Valley Conference. Doubtful this will be remotely competitive after the first 5 or 6 minutes. What this game will be is an opportunity to see some of that young talent that fans have been hearing about on the UGA roster. Who will emerge as the backs to take over for Nick Chubb and Sony Michel? Expect Jake Fromm to come out the game early and for fans to get a good look at Freshman Sensation Justin Fields.
Prediction: UGA 55 Austin Peay 7

Before the football season gets real for the Yellow Jackets they welcome Alcorn State down to the Flats. The Jackets appeared to have found their Quarterback last season as TaQuon Marshall who will run Paul Johnson’s high-powered offense. The Jackets will be out in their new look Adidas uniforms. This game shouldn’t be too close. The key in this game is to see if Marshall has improved enough as a passer to make the Jackets viable this season. Next week its real against South Florida.
Prediction: Georgia Tech 37 Alcorn State 14

One of college football’s most storied rivalries picks up between Michigan and Notre Dame. The Wolverines and Irish both are looking to make big strides this season, with both of their high profile coaches starting to feel the heat. This season Jim Harbaugh as something hasn’t really had his first 3 seasons in Ann Arbor and that’s a quarterback. Mississippi transfer Shea Patterson is supposed to be the missing piece to put the Wolverines over the top. With a defense returning 10 starters and a good haul of NFL prospects there are high hopes for this team. Notre Dame led by Brian Kelly will be trying to settle on a Quarterback and see if Brandon Wimbush has improved enough as a passer to solid dual threat.
Prediction: Michigan 27 Notre Dame 21
