Georgia Football Weekend – 2017 Week 2
With all the craziness that is Hurricane Irma it’s good to have some college football to escape to. Week 1 went almost as planned and we learned a lot about our favorite in-state teams going forward. UGA found out that the capable back-up that you had does really have starter potential. Georgia Tech, congratulations you have another quarterback perfectly suited to run the Paul Johnson Triple-Option attack. We will learn a little more about Georgia Southern this week against New Hampshire.
The Yellow Jackets lost a heartbreaker in the season opener to Tennessee. Paul Johnson’s club looks to bounce back at Bobby Dodd Stadium against the Gamecocks from Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks come into Atlanta with a defense that finished 3rd in the nation and has 7 returning starters. That being said, this happened in FCS (Division I-AA). As good as they may have been they are not ready for the Triple Option attack with ACC level talent that gave a talented SEC team the fits. One thing is for sure, Tech has definitely found its next big option sensation in TaQuon Marshall. The Junior signal caller accounted for 369 total yards of offense against Tennessee and 5 touchdowns. We can expect more of the same against the Gamecocks.
Prediction: Georgia Tech 35 JSU 20

After a disappointing but expect loss to Auburn the Eagles will enter a more leveled playing field against the University of New Hampshire. The Wildcats from the CAA Conference escaped with a narrow win against Maine last week. Georgia Southern was supposed to play this game at home but due to the evacuation of South Georgia because of Hurricane Irma. The game will take place in Birmingham, AL. We don’t know a lot about the new quarterback for the Eagles, Shai Werts but expect to see a lot more of what he can do against New Hampshire.
Prediction: Georgia Southern 24 New Hampshire 17

One of the biggest match-ups of the weekend goes down in South Bend, IN. The 15th ranked Georgia Bulldogs will face off against the #24 Notre Dame. This is a rare match-up for the two traditional football programs. Both schools looked good against their respective opponents last week. In year 2 of the Kirby Smart regime Georgia has high expectations and this will be an early measuring stick. Can the man who led known as a defensive guru slow down a Fighting Irish offense that racked up over 600 yards last week? The Dawgs will start freshman QB Jake Fromm due to an injury to Jacob Eason. It is debatable that Georgia could be in better shape who the head coach seems to be very fond of. He looked ready stepping into last week’s contest against App State and going 10 for 15 for 143 yards late in the game. The money line is leaning in favor of Notre Dame and I say they may be underestimating the rushing attack of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel.
Prediction: UGA 27 Notre Dame 17
