Georgia Football Weekend 2017 – Championship Week
We have reached Championship Week. The conference titles are on the line and a shot the playoffs are in play. The Bulldogs are in it this week as they face Auburn in Atlanta at the first SEC Title game to be held at Mercedes Benz Stadium. The will likely represent the SEC at either the Sugar Bowl or Rose Bowl in the first round of the playoffs.
In Kirby Smart’s 2nd season he has a chance to lead UGA to their first conference title since 2005. Standing in his way is familiar foe Auburn. The deep south’s oldest rivalry will be contested for the first time in this title game. Coach Malzahn hopes that the Tigers can put on a similar performance against the Bulldogs that they had 3 weeks ago.
Georgia is hoping a neutral site game will help alter the results from their most recent meeting. Some may see UGA playing in Atlanta as homefield advantage, but Auburn is not that far down I-85 and has a lot of fans who are close. The biggest key to today’s match-up will be the health of Auburn running back Kerryon Johnson. Possibly the best back in the SEC could be out or very limited today. With injuries to both shoulders, even if he plays he may not be that effective.
The Tigers will be trying to win their 3rd big game in the last three weeks. Georgia who has been dominant all year will try to shake off their lone blemish of the season. Can the Dawgs offensive line control the Tigers front this time around and get Chubb and Michel going. The odds makers have this game about even. There will be a lot of nerves and expect the defenses to not allow a lot of points.
Prediction: Georgia 24 Auburn 21
