Georgia Football Weekend 10/04 – 10/05
This weekend football is in full force around Georgia. All of the major players have games going on this Saturday and Sunday. Here is how the weekend should look.
Georgia Bulldogs versus Vanderbilt Commodores
The Bulldogs escaped last week with a narrow 3 point win over conference rival Tennessee. This week they hope that they can wrap the game up a lot quicker against Vanderbilt. It will be homecoming for the Dawgs and nothing like a blowout to send the Athens faithful home happy. Vandy has struggled out the gate this year under new Head Coach Derek Mason. The Commodores are 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the SEC. This should be cakewalk everyone is expecting. If you are heading to Sanford Stadium to see Todd Gurley, you might want to get there before half time.
Prediction: UGA 44 Vandy 17
Georgia Southern vs New Mexico State
The Eagles are enjoying their 1st season of FBS football. They are 3-2 and their 2 losses are by a combined total of 5 points against two ACC schools. You can say that the little team from Statesboro, GA is ready to play. They take on Sun Belt Conference opponent New Mexico State who are 2-3 and only have been able to beat powerhouses like Georgia State and Cal Poly. The Eagles will have to take their show on the road but that is probably their only disadvantage in this game. Georgia Southern brings the nation’s number 1 rushing attack to Aggie Stadium.
Prediction: GSU 31 New Mex St 14
Georgia Tech versus Miami
Who knew the Yellowjackets would 4-0 to start the season? This week they host the Miami Hurricanes at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Miami is 3- 2 and fresh off a conference win against Duke. This could be the set up for either one of these teams to make a push towards the ACC Title game. The Canes are not stable at quarterback and have had struggles on both side of ball. They are athletic on defense and have good linebackers. They will need all of that against a Tech attack that is putting up 36 points a game. The student section is sold out already and everyone has their white tee shirts.
Prediction: GA Tech 24 Miami 21
Atlanta Falcons versus New York Giants
The Falcons are 2-2 after getting roughed up by the Vikings last week. The good thing is a lot of teams in the league are 2-2, which includes facing this week. The New York Giants have been playing a game of Jekyll and Hyde this season when they have either looked really good or really bad. Last week against the Redskins, Eli Manning looked like a stellar franchise quarterback. This week comes down to can the make shift offensive line the Falcons have hold up against the Giants pass rush. Will the Falcons ever be able themselves to actually chase down a quarterback? The road has not been kind to Atlanta and especially in outdoor stadiums.
Prediction: NY 24 ATL 21
