Georgia Football Weekend 2017 – Week 4

This weekend football gets back to its normal self in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. All three of the big boy programs in the state are in action. The Bulldogs of UGA handled business as expected last week against Samford but how will they fair with the opposition going up a few notches this week? Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech are back after a week off. Will there be rust or will these teams be fresh?

Georgia Tech vs Pittsburgh

This week we start conference play and the Yellow Jackets will face ACC Coastal Division rival Pittsburgh at Bobby Dodd Stadium this week. Tech is coming off an unexpected week off with their game against UCF being canceled. Paul Johnson’s team feels like they should be 2-0 and are hyped for the ACC portion of the season. Pitt is 1-2 and have had some offensive struggles but their big losses were against two top 10 teams. The Yellow Jackets are 9-point favorites in this game and the gamblers may have it right. TaQuon Marshall has the Tech offense rolling and being at home only will make them tougher.
Prediction: Georgia Tech 37 Pitt 17

Georgia Southern vs Indiana

Georgia Southern is coming off an off week and head up to Bloomington, IN for some Big Ten competition. A few years ago, this game would have looked like a potential upset of a lower tier major conference team. This season that probably won’t be the case, the Eagles of Georgia Southern are trying to find their way and the Hoosiers of Indiana are not your grandfather’s horrible football team. Georgia Southern will get some experience but that’s about it.
Prediction: Indiana 27 Georgia Southern 10

Georgia vs Mississippi State

The game of the week in the state and possibly in the nation is a Bulldog on Bulldog matchup. SEC West Mississippi State heads to Athens to face off against SEC East Georgia. Both teams are ranked in the top 20, with Miss State sitting at 17, while UGA is number 11 in the latest polls. Kirby Smart is still trusting the ship to Jake Fromm who may take on the role permanently with a big performance today. The Bulldogs of Mississippi State have a high-powered offense and will look to run the ball against the stout Georgia defense. Georgia will also look to impose their will on the ground against Miss State. Expect healthy doses of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel today. This game will be close and hard fought.
Prediction: UGA 20 Miss State 17
