Georgia Football Weekend 10/29/16

UGA Auburn Player

With Georgia and Georgia Tech both having the week off we did not produce a preview. This week both teams have some big contest that could mean a lot to their seasons. Tech will host Duke for homecoming on Saturday while UGA is heading to Jacksonville for the Cocktail Party.

Georgia Tech vs Duke

Georgia Tech vs Duke

This weekend down on the flats Georgia Tech will take on ACC Coastal division foe Duke. Both teams are looking to salvage their seasons and become bowl eligible. Having lost this game, the past 2 years the Yellow Jackets would love nothing more than to defeat Coach David Cutcliffe’s ball club.

Duke vs Tech

Duke comes into this game 0-3 in ACC play and have suffered losses to the likes of Virginia, Wake Forest and Northwestern. They did knock off Notre Dame and kept their last game respectable against Louisville. The team is a led by freshman quarterback Daniel Jones who has been going through some growing pains this season.

The Jackets have had a week off to prepare for this game. They stopped their losing skid in their last game by beating Georgia Southern. If Tech wants to make a bowl this season this game will need to win this game as it will be much harder to pick up 2 wins in their last 4 games. The current odds on this game has the Yellow Jackets by 7, I think it will be much closer.
Prediction: Georgia Tech 27 Duke 24

Georgia vs Florida

Georgia vs Florida

The Bulldogs head to Jacksonville for the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Their annual tilt with the Florida Gators is here and Coach Kirby Smart would love to nail this win in his first year. It will be hard as the Gators are coming into this game with the number 2 scoring defense in the nation only allowing 12 points per game.

Florida has their eyes set on getting to Atlanta for the SEC title game and cannot afford a stumble against UGA. The Dawgs want to recover from the disappointing loss to Vanderbilt last week and want to finish their season strong. With a freshman quarterback, it will be an uphill climb taking on a team who outside of a massive collapse against Tennessee and close call at Vandy the Gators have blown the doors off their opponents this year.

Led by quarterback Luke Del Rio, son of Raiders Head Coach Jack Del Rio, the Gator offense is putting up 30 points per game but still needs some work. The Georgia defense will need to hold them in check which is not impossible. The Dawgs will need to control the clock with their rushing attack led by All American Nick Chubb. If Georgia can keep it close and not have huge mistakes from Eason they may have a chance.
Prediction: Florida 28 Georgia 14
