Braves See Who’s Next

Braves Press Conference

The Atlanta Braves took the first steps into a new era this week when they fired General Manager Frank Wren. Atlanta has vastly underachieved this season and this was another year that finished out with a late collapse. With the Braves officially out of postseason contention upper management made their move Monday removing Wren from his post as GM.

The burning question is will Fredi Gonzalez will stay as the club’s manager? Usually when a new general manager takes over they want to bring in their own manager to run the team. Very rarely does a coach survive this in any sport. Team President John Schuerholz says that the new GM will evaluate the coaching and roster situation.

For a team that was in 1st place in their division for 86 days this season to not finish above .500 is a total failure. The Braves were believed to be able to compete in what was a mediocre NL East. A few injuries combined with underperforming players with high contracts did the team in this year. Fans and analyst were also very critical Gonzalez’s game management. The organization definitely sees the need go in another direction, so now it’s time to see what happens.
